The fastest charging electric car models

In the top 10, 6 models are products of the Hyundai group, while only one Tesla appears.

Edmunds - a huge source of information and data about American cars - conducts tests to measure the fast charging of electric vehicle models currently sold in the US. A total of more than 40 vehicles were tested with support from P3 Group (Germany) - a company specializing in consulting for the auto industry.

The two sides jointly measured energy transfer times at Level 3 fast charging stations, with a focus on battery packs in a 10-80% state of charge. The unit of measurement is calculated according to the average distance per hour of charging.

The rear-wheel-drive Hyundai Ioniq 6 Limited with an electric motor was the fastest-charging car in the test. The next two positions are Kia EV6 Wind, also rear-wheel drive, and Ioniq 6 Limited, 4-wheel drive.

In addition to these three car models, Hyundai Group also has three other products in the top 10, including three brands: Hyundai, Kia and Genesis. The remaining names include two Porsches, both Taycans, and a Mercedes model. At the bottom of the ranking is the only Tesla, also the only American car model in the top 10: Model 3 Long Range version.

If we count the total of 43 electric car models in the test, American automakers are the most disappointing, occupying the last 11 positions on the list. Accordingly, the slowest charging ability is the Chevrolet Bolt EUV Premier when it only adds 276 km per hour of charging. Cars at the bottom include the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian in both pickup and SUV versions. In the middle of the ranking are German models and the Tesla series.

At this time, charging an electric vehicle is still much slower than filling a tank of gas or oil for an internal combustion engine vehicle, and is often calculated in hours instead of just a few minutes. The fast charging ability calculated based on actual operating conditions above can be helpful to users, for example, to calculate and arrange a specific schedule for a family trip, rather than the parameters. Estimated by the manufacturer.
